Driving on Samos — What to Expect Roads Main roads on Samos are paved and in good condition. The north coast road (Vathi–Kokkari–Karlovasi) is the busiest — narrow and winding in places, but manageable. The south coast road (Pythagorio–Marathokampos) is quieter, more scenic, and passes through agricultural areas. Rules That Matter Speed limits: 50 km/h in towns and villages, 90 km/h on rural roads. No motorways on Samos. Alcohol limit: 0.05% for standard drivers, 0.02% for new drivers. Fines start at €200 and escalate to criminal charges above 1.1 g/L. Seatbelts: mandatory for all occupants. Best Beaches by Car Beach From Airport Surface Vibe Parking Facilities Note: There are two different beaches called Psili Ammos on Samos. Psili Ammos (East) is near Pythagorio — fine sand, family-friendly. Psili Ammos (West) is near Marathokampos — golden sand, quieter. Check your map before you drive. Wild Beaches (Hike Required) Mikro Seitani and Megalo Seitani are remote coves on the west coast, accessed only on foot from Potami Beach. The hike is 7–8 km round-trip along the coast.
